Indonesia Shuts Down 27 Illegal Pawnshops and 228 Illegal Digital Asset Traders, Strengthening Consumer Protection

STRAIGHTTIME.ASIA, JAKARTA – Indonesia’s Financial Activity Task Force (Satgas PASTI) has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the country’s financial sector by shutting down 27 illegal private pawnshops and 228 illegal digital financial asset traders during 2026 as part of an intensified campaign against unlawful financial activities.

The enforcement measures aim to strengthen consumer protection while curbing the rapid growth of illegal financial services operating across digital platforms.

In an official statement released on Monday (June 22, 2026), Satgas PASTI revealed that between April and May 2026 it had taken action against 27 private pawn businesses operating without the required licenses.

The crackdown follows Law No. 4 of 2023 on Financial Sector Development and Strengthening (P2SK Law), which requires all pawnshop operators to obtain official licenses no later than January 12, 2026.

According to Satgas PASTI, illegal pawn businesses pose significant risks to consumers by charging excessive interest rates, imposing unfair contractual terms, and providing inadequate protection for pledged assets and customer rights.
