Fraud Schemes Becoming More Sophisticated
Satgas PASTI warned that digital fraud methods continue to evolve in complexity.
Among the latest schemes is social engineering using remote-access applications, where fraudsters persuade victims to share their smartphone screens or install applications under the pretense of providing banking or government services.
Criminals are also exploiting fake QRIS payment codes placed at merchants, redirecting customer payments into fraudulent accounts.
Another growing scam is the recovery scam, in which fraudsters contact previous victims while impersonating law enforcement agencies or government institutions, demanding additional fees in exchange for recovering stolen funds.
Authorities have also identified increasing cases involving counterfeit invoices and fake payment receipts designed to deceive businesses and consumers during financial transactions.
OJK Calls for Greater Public Vigilance
Satgas PASTI and the Financial Services Authority (OJK) urged Indonesians to remain cautious when confronted with investment offers promising unusually high returns within a short period.
The public is encouraged to verify company licenses through official OJK channels, avoid trusting unsolicited offers circulated via social media or private messaging applications, never disclose personal data, bank account information, OTP codes, or passwords, and immediately report suspected illegal financial activities or fraudulent transactions through official reporting channels.
Satgas PASTI reaffirmed that it will continue strengthening coordination with relevant authorities to suppress the spread of illegal financial activities in the digital ecosystem.
The initiative is expected to enhance public confidence in Indonesia’s financial services industry while fostering a safer, healthier, and more sustainable investment environment nationwide.
