Among the priorities discussed were strengthening social and cultural ties through the preservation of Malay heritage, enhancing cooperation in education and vocational training, improving transportation and logistics connectivity, promoting regional tourism, facilitating the placement of skilled workers, and accelerating digital transformation as a foundation for regional economic growth.
As part of the program, delegates from both countries also visited the historic Penyengat Island, showcasing the cultural heritage and tourism potential of the Riau Islands to Malaysian counterparts.
Nyanyang expressed hope that all agreements reached during the technical meetings and plenary sessions of Sosek Malindo would be translated into concrete programs capable of delivering tangible benefits to communities living in border areas.
“This meeting has generated a renewed commitment to jointly transform the Indonesia-Malaysia border region into an area that is safe, prosperous, competitive, and economically resilient,” he stated.
He further stressed that Indonesia and Malaysia have maintained close and longstanding relations, making stronger collaboration through the Sosek Malindo forum increasingly important in unlocking new opportunities for investment, trade, tourism, and shared prosperity.
By hosting the 22nd Sosek Malindo in Batam, the Riau Islands Provincial Government hopes to further strengthen the friendship between Indonesia and Malaysia while reinforcing the province’s strategic position as a leading gateway for regional economic cooperation in the Strait of Malacca and the broader ASEAN region.
