STRAIGHTTIME.ASIA, INDONESIA – PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) Area Batam is accelerating the development of its residential natural gas network as part of its commitment to expanding access to clean, efficient, and environmentally friendly energy for communities across Batam.
Speaking to KE Groups, PGN Batam Area Head Wendi Purwanto said the household gas network (jargas) project, which targets approximately 10,000 residential customers, continues to make steady progress.
“To date, we have completed around 40 kilometers of distribution pipelines. Meanwhile, approximately 200 households have already been connected and are now PGN customers,” Wendi said.
He explained that the company is currently prioritizing the completion of the gas distribution network to ensure the entire infrastructure is fully operational before accelerating additional household connections.
According to Wendi, PGN expects a significant increase in customer connections starting in August 2026, once the distribution network in several areas has been completed.
“Our major expansion will begin in August. Once the distribution infrastructure is finished, the number of connected households will increase substantially,” he said.
He emphasized that completing the distribution infrastructure remains the company’s top priority, as it serves as the foundation for rapidly expanding natural gas access to residential communities.
The household gas network program is expected to improve energy efficiency, reduce dependence on LPG cylinders, and support Batam’s economic growth while strengthening the city’s energy infrastructure.
With construction progressing as planned, PGN remains optimistic that its target of connecting thousands of households will be achieved, enabling more residents in Batam to enjoy a safer, more practical, and environmentally friendly natural gas supply.
