STRAIGHTTIME.ASIA, INDONESIA – The Batam Indonesia Free Zone Authority (BP Batam) has strengthened its commitment to sustainable regional development by signing a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Raja Ali Haji Maritime University (UMRAH), marking a significant step toward accelerating investment, economic growth, and the development of Batam’s newly expanded 22-island jurisdiction.
The agreement was signed on Tuesday (June 23, 2026) at the BP Batam Marketing Centre by BP Batam Chief Amsakar Achmad and UMRAH Rector Prof. Dr. Agung Dhamar Syakti. The ceremony was attended by BP Batam deputy chiefs, senior officials, vice rectors, and university deans.
The partnership covers academic assistance, policy studies, research, consultation, competency development, infrastructure utilization, and other collaborative initiatives aimed at supporting regional development and strengthening institutional capacity.
Amsakar Achmad emphasized that the agreement should go beyond a ceremonial signing and produce tangible programs that directly support investment expansion, economic development, and community welfare.
“This collaboration must not stop at the signing ceremony. We must ensure it is implemented through concrete actions that strengthen investment growth and empower communities across the region,” Amsakar said.
He explained that the partnership has become increasingly strategic following BP Batam’s expanded authority over 22 islands under Government Regulations No. 25 of 2025, No. 28 of 2025, and No. 47 of 2026.
