STRAIGHTTIME.ASIA, INDONESIA – The Riau Islands Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine Agency (Kepri Quarantine), through its Natuna Service Unit, has successfully issued Fish and Fish Product Health Certificates (KI-2) for hundreds of tons of frozen seafood destined for Jakarta, ensuring the products meet Indonesia’s food safety and quarantine standards.
A total of 290.1 tons of fish and fishery products were certified for shipment, consisting of 176 tons of pelagic fish, 49.5 tons of reef fish, 6 tons of frozen anchovies, 25.6 tons of octopus, and 33 tons of squid.
The seafood was transported by sea aboard KM Logistik Nusantara 4 and KM ABG Kepri, with a total economic value estimated at Rp4.45 billion.
Head of Kepri Quarantine, Hasim, said every shipment undergoes a comprehensive inspection process before the health certificate is issued.
“The process begins with an administrative inspection and document verification. Our officers review applications submitted through the PTK Online system to ensure all required documentation is complete,” Hasim said.
Following the administrative review, quarantine officers conduct physical and health inspections of the fish products.
“Although the products are transported in frozen condition, they must remain fresh and fit for consumption. Our inspectors carefully examine the overall condition of the fish before approving the shipment,” he explained.
After all inspection procedures were completed and no quarantine fish pests or diseases were detected, Kepri Quarantine issued the Fish and Fish Product Health Certificate (KI-2). The certificate serves as official proof that the seafood products are healthy, safe, and suitable for public consumption.
Kepri Quarantine reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the movement of animals, fish, plants, and their derivative products by ensuring every commodity transported across regions complies with national biosecurity and food safety standards.
Under its slogan, “Maximum Protection, Optimal Service,” the agency continues to strengthen its role in protecting consumers while supporting Indonesia’s fisheries trade.
“Kepri Quarantine is fully committed to guaranteeing the safety of food products distributed to the public. We consistently carry out strict inspections to ensure every shipment is safe before it reaches consumers,” Hasim concluded.(***)
